December Event

On December 14th we will be supporting Mom’s Demand  Actionas they mark the 5th anniversary of their founding with a  Sandy Hook Memorial event.  The meeting will be held at the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor, 608 East William Street from7-8:30 PM. Let’s add our voices to the growing chorus so that together we can bring an end to the epidemic of gun violence ravaging our country!  This problem impacts everyone, but women and children disproportionately.

Third Anniversary Celebration!
Celebrate with Washtenaw NOW at our meet-up on January 11, 2018, 6:30-8:30 PMat the Classic Cup, 4389 Jackson Road in Ann Arbor.  We will have elections, eat cake and make signs and buttons for both the upcoming Women’s March in Lansing and the fake clinic picketing action later in the month!   .

Thank you to your nominating committee, Janine Capsouras, Kati Stoermer and Cheryl Farmer, for putting together your slate of candidates!  Under our by-laws, this year’s Vice President – Anna Vockel – becomes President in 2018.  Since there are no contested positions, we will vote for the following additional candidates by acclamation:  Vice President:  Shannon Basalla, Treasurer:  Margo Czinski,  Recorder:  Cheryl Farmer, Communications Coordinator : Kati Stoermer.

At this meeting we will also vote on a proposed by-laws change:  Shall we create  a one year position on the Board called “Immediate Past-President?”  This change would increase the number of Board members from 7 to 8, and would improve Board continuity, stability and capacity.

Following the important business portion of the meeting, we will socialize and get to work creating!  Cake and all supplies needed to make signs and buttons will be provided!

Although there will be no official Women’s March in Washington D.C. next January, the one year anniversary date of the biggest march in history will still be marked by many, many marches all over the country –  including in Lansing, Michigan.  We will begin at NOON at the Capitol!  Save the Date, make your signs and watch this Facebook site for details as they evolve:

Michigan NOW Chapters to  take ACTION
in celebration of the anniversary of Roe v Wade

On Saturday afternoon, January 27 our Chapter will be picketing one of the two so-called “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) in Washtenaw County:   Arbor Woman on East Liberty or Family Life Services on Packard. The National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) defines CPCs as “fake health-care clinics that lie to, shame and intentionally mislead women about their reproductive-health-care options to block them from accessing abortion care.”  Crisis PRegnancy Centers  Women facing an unintended pregnancy deserve medically accurate, comprehensive and unbiased information.  Unfortunately, Michigan is one of  12 states that provide CPCs direct state funding, creating the false impression that they are part of the mainstream medical community – NOT!  (TIME Magazine:  The Abortion Battleground: Crisis Pregnancy Centers)    The exact time and meeting place for picketing will be announced later, but SAVE THE DATE!  Interested in being on the planning committee for this?  Call Cheryl Farmer at 734-481-1804.  We will be making signs at our January 11th meeting.

The future depends entirely on what each of us does every day;
a movement is only people moving.
